Hi SPCE,

The caching on previous versions of the app is not a feature of the current app. It was only available to deliver content quicker to the user and allowing a more streamlined experience. Our mobile engineers have since improved the technical capabilities and therefore limited its capacity.

I hope that clears that up for you.

Same here , the cache capability of the app was the only reason for me to use that app .But I guess the magic is over , because the whole music ownership issue is yet to be solved completely .At the end of the day it's not the fault of the dev's .

Hey everyone affected by the recent updates, I began rolling back versions and it seems "SoundCloud 15.02.02-45 APK" (release from Feb 4th, 2015) has corrected the issue (at least for me).

I had no trouble today walking (2 minutes on my LTE) to the underground with a consistently cached stream for 40 minutes.

A quick Google of the version and you should be able to find it. APK4Fun worked for me. Be sure to remove your current SoundCloud app, install the back version and then remove automatic updates in your Play store.

Hope that helps some people!

15.02.02-45 works for me just fine has the cache size and everything. I just tried both to check plus 2.8.3 is from April 2014 vs Feb 2015 definitely fo with the 15.02.02 apk

Yeah i hope this feature returns SOUNDCLOUD,it was perfect.
Otherwise i will move to google play
Well, at least Soundcloud should have the courtesy to notify their users on Google Play/Apple app store wrt the removal of "large size caching".

Perhaps you guys don't want to scare your users off, hence you choose not to notify us. However, it's just a matter of time users realise how much this is "eating" into their mobile data usage and move on to another music app.

Ver.2.8.3. works perfectly with the stream cache memory that we use to have, I've tried the other versions and they do not have it; now we also have the pictures back, fantastic. You won't find it on google play, you need to set your android preferences so that allow you to download from any site (i.e. the site where the Ver.2.8.3.apk file is), or use you PC with the procedure I have posted above. Cheers.

What are your advice to me, which has a 1GB traffic / month outside my wifi? To ditch your service and get my music from somewhere that provides a better service?
I try to understand your reasoning here but its impossble unless you actually want to make a bad service. I would like offline cache for playlists exactly the same way spotify has for free songs and songs i bought.

Is this response for real? How did a product manager not handle this correctly? If they say that caching is being moved to membership only I'd at least understand. This response leads me to believe soundcloud is mismanaging their mobile support which really is what everyone uses this app for anyway...
It's a pitty. I just started to use soundcloud as my only mobile music player, but now it seems that I have to drop it. I don't realy cared about listening when I am offline, but without the caching the bandwith consumption is just too expensive in the long run.
I'm going to try and keep this as polite as possible. Caching is an essential part of any mobile music streaming experience. Whoever made this decision is literally the worst.
What a joke. The mobile audio cache made the app good. Now the app is absolutely useless. 0/10 marks.

Just download Ver.2.8.3. installation .apk file from one of the sites available, Playstore won't let you download it. Then disable the app option to update itself, automatically. To install from another site other tha Playstore you need to enable Android for that, setting up the developers' capability in your mobile phone. Ciao.

Sorry but this is the worst thing that could have happened to Soundcloud. Looks like I'll be moving to spotify where I'll have to pay for music. sigh

Absolutely batshit decision. I ended up using half a GIGABYTE listening to music on Saturday, music I'd already listened to on my WiFi...so guess what, I went over my data allowance.

Thanks.

Bad news guys: Ver.2.8.3 is now crashing all the times, probably since Android is updating the app won't work anymore. Since no other version seems to have the cache stream (size option), I might downgrade my Android 4.4.2 system and see if it works.

I am checking Ver.15.04.15 it looks like has'got some cache inside ( I can playback offline) but it's noe re-sizable from the settings.

I just don't get why Soundcloud decided to eradicate the Offline cache streaming capability on the new versions. I just don't get that!!! That's a wrong marketing choice, and a shortsighted vision.

I 've just find out the with Spotify You can manually adjust the size of the cache from between 1GB and 100GB ...wow ... interesting.. I'll give it a try and maybe switch over, unless the Soundcloud developers don't want to think twice about cache streaming option.

Hi Gianfranco,

I can only speak for SoundCloud and not for features that are part of paid plans for other streaming services, good things are in the works.

Hang tight,
Gina

Sounds positive. Fingers crossed they restore the cache feature as it's a real nightmare when travelling on the London Underground between station as wi-fi is only available when the tube is in the station. I used to be able to cache enough music for the whole journey!

Anyway, for whom who might be interested in this very important feature of Soundcloud, recently very unfortunately removed in the updated versions of the app, the version you are looking for is Ver.2.8.3. Just install it, it still runs with the latest Android (but they will change that, probably), and you'll be back to the good all days of the Soundcloud stream cache size option. Have good listening Folks!

Dear Gina, finally an official public answer from you guys, as you can see we all want the cache-stream-resize option back, and it's in Soundcloud interest to bring it back, and hopefully you guys will do that ASAP. I would not mind paying for that, as long as it's done.

I cannot move to another platform, they can't compare with Soundcloud.

As you can see we all have found a way around installing Ver.2.8.3, although it's becoming unstable.
Oh by the way if Ver.2.8.3 crashes too often, uninstall it, then install an older version, and then re-install it, it should become more stable... I know it does not make sense, but hey ... machines...
Cheers.

I'm told that i shouldn't whine about the cacheing feature, as it's a free service, but as an artist I resent that. I already pay more for Soundcloud than any other subscription. 3 accounts at 5.99 a month and there's no extra provision or advantage made for subscribers on the app.

This is complete bullshit. Why would you take away a feature that allowed us to listen to songs we have in our daily routine carefree and now we get f'd by using so much data every time we use your product. Guess you don't want people using Soundcloud whenever they aren't connected to wifi. Was fun using Soundcloud to listen to tunes on my way to work every day but guess those days are over

Alright, so in the past I used to listen to songs on the soundcloud app at home with wifi, and the app would save all the songs I played on my mobile permanently. But recently, it seems that the app is randomly deleting the cache, so when I step out of my house, I can't listen to the songs offline. Anyone else got these problems?!?

Common man i would use this app so much more if i had a decent cache size, when i'm at work i don't feel i should have use half a gig of data a day to play my playlist it really irritates me. This used to be my favorite music app but i feel like im just gonna stop using it all together R.I.P. Sound Cloud :(
