How do I disable that #$%#$% Autoplay

Userlevel 4
I had at one point set my sound cloud so that I would not be shoved into another audio once the once I was listening to finish. That seems to have been unset. Please help.

Sentiment: pissed

Hey BlkCruelt,

Sorry to hear you're not enjoying the continuous play feature. The intention of the feature is to allow you to explore SoundCloud while continuously listening to sounds from your Stream. Please rest assured that the tracks that play will relate to tracks on your Stream and your 'Likes', they won't be totally random. It currently is not possible to disable this.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Continuous auto play has been a problem for many for months now.

This has been brought up multiple times.

The Auto play feature without an option to turn it off is just annoying. And has been brought up many times now, with more than enough time to make an adjustment. This is blatant stat inflation at the expense of the user's enjoyment.

Please make the adjustment. If I can find an alternative to soundcloud before you do you will lose at least one user.

Hi rummuds,

Sorry to hear your frustration over this. I can relate though. I have forwarded yours and other users' feedback to the relevant product team. Please keep in mind though that this doesn't guarantee an immediate change in the product. We do collect all of our feedback (I highly recommend reviewing this convo for feature requests) and forward them to each of our product teams for review.

Please acknowledge that many of your long time users see this behavior as a bug on two counts. First, the behavior needs to be optional. You have been presented with a great many use cases where the (&(**&*&% autoplay is unwanted. Second, the clip selection algorithm simply does not work. That failure is leaving many of your users aggravated and resentful.

I agree that we should have an option to turn autoplay off!
Userlevel 4
Please ask every soundcloud friend that you have to support this thread and submit a request to fix this broken behavior.

Of all my friends that use Soundcloud, not a single one likes the autoplay function. Having a funktrack play IMMEDIATELY after my own jazztrack is just idiotic and takes away from the experience. Please fix this, or I'll be forced to find an alternative to Soundcloud. Which would be sad, since I like your service.
But this a completely useless feature if you dont have a choice to turn it off...
This is horrible. Really? A feature??? I was using the post feature through Studio One to post songs.

I'm done.

it's interesting that soon after youtube added auto-play, they then offered the option to disable it. That was very smart b/c the last thing a business should want to do is piss off it's customers/users.

Emotion --> action.

not being able to disable autoplay means i close soundcloud after listening to a song, meaning it is then less convenient to use soundcloud for the next audio search that i do (and i do a lot of audio searches, which very often get posted to a large audience); so in that regard the lack of an ability to disable autoplay limits soundcloud's exposure to a larger audience.

it is easier to search from highlighted text or from my browser's address field than having to open a new tab and then go to soundcloud so i can search, even though i prefer soundcloud over (likely) youtube.

Autoplay is MADDENING!!!!

In addition to everything already mentioned, the volume levels of tracks varies greatly. I usually listen on headphones. Turn up the volume to listen to a quiet track and then, if you don't move fast enough to stop the next track autoplaying, if it is a loud one it blasts your head off!!!

PLEASE MAKE AUTOPLAY OPTIONAL.

If you can link to the actual Feature Request about Autoplay I will happily add my voice to it - there does not seem to be a way to search only the Feature Requests section.

Apart from that - LOVE Soundcloud :-)

I don't think comments on this thread will accomplish much. What we all really need to do is fill out a Feature Request requesting an option to turn this off. That's what I just did. Hopefully the more feature requests they get, the more likely they will implement this feature.

Great thought. I did the same. I looked for your feature request to Like it and was unable to find it. When did you post the request?

It doesn't look as if "Feature Requests" are included for voting on the Forum:

https://www.soundcloudcommunity.com/soundcloud/topics/about-feature-requests

"We appreciate your desire to improve SoundCloud. To make sure we're well informed of the popularity of feature requests, we compile all requests through our contact form. This way we know they're all coming in to the same place and no request slips through the cracks. Make sure to chose 'Feature Request' from the drop down subject menu and leave us a quick note that you're coming from the help forum. From here, top requests are communicated to the relevant product teams.

If you have a great idea you’d like to share, please do not use the Help forum, which focuses on support and troubleshooting, and rather use the contact form."

Thanks liz, I overlooked it.

EDIT: Including a direct link to the feature request form.

http://help.soundcloud.com/customer/portal/emails/new

Perhaps they will get a clue if each of us submit the same fix request.

So did I :-) Spent ages searching earlier and then tried David's link and it went to the info page. Thanks for the direct link to the Contact Form too! :-)

Yep, sorry I should have included the direct link. :-) Glad you found it.

Thank you for pointing us in the right direction in the first place, David! Let us just hope that they take some notice - I linked to this thread in my "Feature Request" email to Soundcloud :-)

Great Liz. Tell a friend. Tell two for that matter. I just saw Gina's response. Seems that they are determined to force this behavior down out throats.

The funny thing is, no one is asking them to remove autoplay. Just make it optional, fix the bug.

That calls into question their confidence that autoplay is a truly welcome behavior of the player.

From reading the other threads it seems that the only explanation for Soundcloud's intransigence is that Autoplay falsely boosts the play-count of sounds when we cannot get to the Stop button quickly enough! So people are fooled into thinking that their sounds are more popular and getting more plays than they actually are.

I am not very active in the sound community. If you know any knowledgeable bloggers could you ask them on their blog to confirm this strategy?

If you look in the sidebar for similar discussions to this one, that is where I found repeated comments that this was the only possible rationale for Soundcloud persisting with the policy :-)

I have been looking for and have found some alternatives to Soundcloud. hearthis.at looks very similar but it does not have Groups. I like the Soundcloud Group feature.

ok, I heard back from them and they are not listening.

Um, no. That is an incorrect assumption on their part and I would not have written to them if I liked what they were deciding I should like, which, almost without exception, I do not. I am done wasting my time and they can find out the hard way that people don't like "continuous play".

Liz, I agree. I simply want to spread the word outside of this forum. If they won't listen to their own users, perhaps they will be swayed by the broader sound community. Stat inflation shame.
Make an option in the settings to disable the autoplay feature. When I don't have the phones plugged into my notebook, and I open the browser, all coworkers hear suddenly my music.
