Podcasting - Common Questions

Userlevel 2
Hello all Podcasters,

Welcome to SoundCloud and to the Help Community. We're glad to hear you're planning to host your podcast on SoundCloud. Please start here to learn more about podcasting on SoundCloud. The Help Center provides all the steps from setting up your podcast, submitting to other services like iTunes and Stitcher to measuring how your podcast is doing by looking into your podcasting stats.

We've recognized a number of reoccurring questions about podcasting on our help community (e.g., profile image too small, no episodes in the rss feed, etc.) and want to make sure you can find the answers asap. This is why we've set up a Podcast Troubleshooting section on our Help Center.

Happy Podcasting everyone :-)

Cheers
Mathis

hi guys,

i am looking for solution how to submit podcast to itunes via soundcloud rss. My rss feed is set but i dont understand how itunes "knows" when i upload new podcast here as i can see and find only one rss code in my profile but not for each track/podcast separated.

Or once i upload the podcast and enable "show it in rss feed", itunes makes this automatic?

Im sorry if my question sounds stupid but i cannot find the right answer between topics here or youtube.

Thanks

Hi Mr. Madness,

SoundCloud provides the RSS feed for your SoundCloud Profile. You first set up everything to match iTunes' requirements, then submit your feed to iTunes. Now, whenever you upload a new track and include it in your feed, iTunes will get this info through the feed automatically. Done :-)

I've uploaded my first podcast onto SoundCloud last Thursday. It's called The Zero Waste Podcast.
I've tried to submit it on Itunes. I copied and pasted the rss feed. Itunes tells me "no episodes exist in your feed".
Can you tell me what's the problem?
Thank you,
Amandine

Here'e the web address (https://soundcloud.com/tribalpodcast) and here's the RSS feed url (http://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/soundcloud:users:209326955/sounds.rss). I've tried everything with the photo and iTunes won't take it. Help?

Hi Tribal,

Looks like your SoundCloud profile image is too small (832x832 at the moment). It needs to be 1400x1400 (max. 3000x3000). Please review the Podcasting section on our help center to be best prepared for podcasting :-)

Trying to get my feed onto other apps and the rss feed link doesnt work. My tracks arent private I have nothing in the subscriber redirect or the stat-service url prefix so why is it still not working and then yall want me to go pro. heck naw!

Hey hey,

Please update your SoundCloud profile picture - this is currently 750x750, yet iTunes requires 1400x1400 as a minimum (3000x3000 max).

This should get you started :-)

Hi there,

I've taken a look at your feed for you.

a) Your Profle image is too small
b) Your RSS feed is empty, i.e. there are no episodes in there.

Please see the resources mentioned in the original post to get going :-)

All the best

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Possible to have an RSS feed that doesn't include all your posts?.

Hello! If you have an account that you use to upload multiple types of audio content, some of which is podcast episodes and some of which are not, is it possible to create an RSS feed that includes only the podcast episodes? Can you do this if you have a web page where you embed all the podcast episodes in order? Or do you need a dedicated SoundCloud account that has only the podcast episodes and no other content? Thanks!

Hi there,

Please see the links posted in the original announcement. It is up to you to decide which of your uploads go into the RSS feed :-) As far as embedding is concerned, I'd recommend you create a playlist for your podcast episodes only, then embed that on your website.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Mathis
Thank you, Mathis! I haven't uploaded content yet because I wanted to check on this and make sure I'm doing it in the right way. Thanks for your response - I'll look at those links above!

The RSS feed of my Soundcloud will not work. I have all the RSS feed options selected correctly, but when I search for the show or episode through a podcast, it won't show up anywhere.

Hi there,

From what I can see at first glance, it looks like your current SoundCloud profile picture is too small for the link to be submitted to iTunes. Also, please note that an RSS feed does not automatically get picked up by podcasting services like iTunes - you would need to submit your feed to services like this.

I recommend reading through the documentation that we're linking to in the original post.

Happy Podcasting. :-)

Yes my RSS is public, Yes I have tracks, so why won't it work. Stitcher said it came back as private but I don't have anything listed or clicked private. When I tested the RSS feed through Soundcloud it says it works fine

Hi there,

Your SoundCloud profile picture is too big and there are currently no episodes included in your RSS feed. Here's how to add tracks. For reference, iTunes asks for a profile picture that is between 1400x1400px and 3000x3000px in size.

Hope this helps to get you started :-)

Hello,
My RSS Feed keeps coming up as invalid on Stitcher and I've looked into the questions and answers before and none seem to apply. We have an episode available for listening, we have no redircts or stats service url. Can you give me any advice?
Thanks so much.

Hi there,

You need to set your episode to be included in your RSS feed and you're good to go. The links to the help center documentation contain step by step guides how to do that :-)

Happy podcasting,

I may have resolved my own issue.

Follow the directions here to adding your episodes to your RSS feed first, and then re-submit your feed to iTunes.

rss feed not updating with new added track

Hi there,

All of your recent uploads seem to be set to public, in which case they won't be included in your RSS feed. In order to make them available, you'd set them to public in your track's edit mode.

If this doesn't do the trick, please try the following as recommend by our user shawnmx:
Go to http://podcastsconnect.apple.com/ and log in with your Apple ID. Click the artwork for your show and then click the "refresh featureed" link. It may take up to 24 hours for your iTunes Store listing to update. Keep in mind that current subscribers will get your latest episode as soon as they refresh their subscriptions, regardless of what's being displayed in the iTunes Store.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Hi, I'm new to the community and was following some instructions to link my podcast to my wordpress site, however when I view the source of my RSS feed, there is no mp3 component for me to copy as mentioned in my tutorial. Could someone give me a pointer? I'd really appreciate it!

I read over previous related replies, but I'm still not 100% clear.

My podcast tracks are set to "No downloads" and "Include in RSS feed."

Here are my questions:

1. What does it mean to download a track in RSS? Like literally, from the user perspective.

2. Can users download in RSS if track is set to "no downloads"?

Thank you.
Hey all, I'm new to podcasting and trying to submit my RSS Feed to itunes. I can subscribe to my RSS Feed but when I try and download an episode to test it, it just comes back with a ! in a circle. I've been trying for 2 weeks and getting nowhere fast. My RSS feed is
